• The Sherman Act of 1890 attempted to outlaw the restriction of competition by large companies, who co-operated with rivals to fix outputs, prices and market shares, initially through pools and later through trusts. 1890년의 셔먼법은 대기업이 경쟁회사들과 협조로 생산량, 가격, 시장 점유율을 고정하는 행위(처음에는 "pools"라 불렀다가 나중에는 "trusts"라 불리게 된 것을 말한다)에 의하여 경쟁을 제한하는 것을 불법화하려는 시도였다.
