Translations[edit]

Verb[edit]

RSVP (third-person singular simple present RSVPs, present participle RSVPing, simple past and past participle RSVPed or RSVP'd)

  1. (intransitive) To reply to an invitation.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Properly, used by itself, but often used in the redundant form “please RSVP”, “RSVP” being used to mean “reply to an invitation”. Such redundancy is an example of RAS syndrome.
  • In British English, an individual is expected to RSVP whether or not they will attend. In American English, an individual only RSVPs if they are attending.
